Learned something new today.. that calling a travel agent to book a trip which would cost between $8k and $14k was obviously not of interest.
Despite conveying we had done all the online research and were looking for help with booking and insight on choices-Commissions paid by airlines and cruise lines to my understanding in the 'old days', Our request of a 60-90 out trip was not worth their time. Coming from a 30 year retail sales background, when a 'coconut' sale, which is a done deal falls in your lap, you are polite and wrap it up efficiently, but not in this case. They expected extra fees for their time and effort, and made no effort to disguise their disdain for this price point trip over the phone.
No thanks. Despite being newly retired and a plethora of trips in mind , you will never get my business.

Once in a lifetime trip for a special anniversary was not what it should have been due to agent's lack of participation in planning and not ASKING about our preferences. The wrong date of the sigificant occassion (35th anniversary) was submitted, so we did not receive proper recognition until the wrong day, cabin assignment was less-than-ideal (it was the closest cabin to stairwell and elevator, so noise levels were not conducive to sleep - especially the last night when they were hauling bags to the elevator all night). We booked the cruise 9 months in advance, so not sure why this happened except, once again, we were not ASKED for our preference. Dining reservation made by the agent (you guessed it - without asking us) was wrong and so was the supposed "correction" the agent made. We had to take care of it ourselves on board, resulting in a less-than-ideal dinner seating assignment, because by the time we were accommodated, the dining rooms were full. When we brought the error to our agent's attention, we were told, "your paperwork says . . .", but it was obvious NO confirmation contact had been made with the cruise line. We were not advised about what to do about money for the country we were traveling to or offered ANY guidance or input on excursions (or anything else for that matter). The drinks had very little alcohol and this should have been told to us, so we could make an educated decision about the drink package. We were on a limited budget and would have bypassed it if we knew the liquor was a questionable issue (shame on me for not going to the internet - but then, I had a travel agent and was counting on THEM as a first-time cruiser for guidance and advice. Silly me!!) For those of you reading this, the drink package on Royal Carribbean ended up being one big fat rip off.

In sume, I'm not sure what we needed a travel agent for. I could have done a better job handling everything myself, which is what I will do in the future for all the trips we will be taking in retirement. We do not recommend this agency.

After trying to find a decent Bahamas trip on our own for wife’s birthday next month, we almost chose a cruise + land package costing about $1500. But not trusting my skill at finding the best option, I decided to talk to a local travel agency and chose Cruise Elite.

Cindi asked the right questions, gave us excellent advice and options, and we are now booked for the perfect dates in a well-placed balcony cabin, 4-night cruise with two days in port at half the cost of my effort before calling her. She’ll get all my future travel business. Kudos!
